[Name]: Raphael
[Canon]: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012 TV series)
[Age]: 15
[Gender]: Male
[Canon Point]: The most recent point he can be pulled from, so right after Season 2, Episode 8.

[History]:
His page and brief biography on the Wiki. Season 1 & part of Season 2 summary. And a page for Raph in general throughout various series.

[Personality]:
Well, Raphael is a bit of a hothead. To put it lightly. His temper is usually his defining trait throughout all his various incarnations and the 2012 series is no different, though in general this version is a little bit more easygoing than the others. Regardless, his anger issues are something that crop up time and again throughout many episodes. Raph has a tendency to go to the extremes with any emotion he displays, and the fact that he is aggressive, brash, and impulsive are all qualities that are constantly showcased.

In the beginning, it's possible a lot of his anger stemmed from his own self-awareness and realization that he and his brothers are unique creatures and the only members of their kind that exist. Having spent a lifetime underground and then only being allowed up to the surface at night when less people are around to possibly see them only adds to this, as well as the knowledge that 99% of humans are likely to view them as freaks. It came up several times in early episodes, with Raphael going so far as to yell at Mikey for thinking he'd be able to form friendships among humans. April joining their little group helps abate some of the bitterness there, though he's still quick to accept and believe that they're never going to see her again when an argument occurs and she leaves for awhile. Still, he forms a fast friendship with Casey in the newest episode, and in general more recently doesn't seem to hold as much anger for humans and their intolerance of him.

Raph is arguably the strongest of his brothers in terms of brute strength. He doesn't always win in spars against them, but when he does he has a habit of bragging about it. This actually ends up being part of the reason Splinter didn't choose him to be their group's leader, something that irritates Raphael to no end because he's very competitive. Especially with Leonardo. The fact is that Raph is far too impulsive to make a good leader, however, as he'd prefer to rush in and start fighting without first thinking of a plan or going over other available options. When he does get the opportunity to play leader, it turns out he can't handle it exactly because of this impulsiveness. Raph is more than willing and ready to dive into battle and let himself take the brunt of the attacks, but as a leader he's unable to send his brothers into a dangerous situation where they could get hurt. He even admits this, saying that while he doesn't mind risking his own life, he can't do that with his brothers' lives.

There is rarely middle ground with Raph and he constantly takes everything to the extreme, including his loyalty to his brothers. While there are fundamental differences between them and more often than not he finds himself getting annoyed and snapping at them before storming off in a rage, in the end he always comes back. Time and again situations have presented themselves where Raph leaves or takes off on his own, one case in particular involving his newly mutated pet turtle, Spike. That situation was unique in itself because Spike actually had plans to get rid of the rest of Raph's brothers, and Raph, though his loyalty and over-protectiveness most definitely extended to his pet, chose his brothers' well-being over forming a new partnership that probably would have been more his "style" with Spike. He's fully aware his brothers are the best things that will ever happen to him in his life, and even through his arguments with Leo, his yelling at Donnie, and his smacking Mikey upside the head, he never, ever stops loving them.

After all, he does have a softer, more nurturing side, however rarely it's displayed. It mostly shows up when he's around his pet turtle, or at least that was the case until Spike got into some mutagen and transformed. But it does also come up around his brothers at times. Raphael often feels misunderstood by his family, though, and will rant about how none of them see things the way he does, how they don't take things seriously enough, and how they should be out fighting the scum on the streets rather than hanging around underground. Despite that, he does seem somewhat unable to ever leave an argument hanging for very long. And though he has a tendency to act without thinking, he is also capable of sorting through his thoughts and coming to terms with whatever is being argued about pretty quickly. After that, he's actually often the one to take the initiative and seek out whichever brother he's at odds with to clear the air between them. He lives in the now, for the most part, and his passionate nature in all situations doesn't allow for a wishy-washy attitude in regards to anything.

It also can't be forgotten that despite what they do, Raphael and his brothers are teenagers. They enjoy playing video games, watching TV, eating pizza, fooling around, messing with each other, tossing jokes around at another brother's expense, etc etc. In a lot of ways they aren't any different from other 15-year-old boys.

They're just giant mutant turtles. And ninjas. Obviously.

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:
Raph's a martial artist, straight up, pure and simple. There are no special moves here, no energy blasts, nothing like that. He's extremely well-trained in the art of Ninjutsu, just like the rest of his brothers. That means he's stealthy, good at hiding in the shadows and sneaking around without being detected, and can use a very wide range of hand-to-hand combat techniques and Taijutsu. Despite not exactly being leadership material, he still tends to take on the second-in-command role behind Leo. He's probably the hardest working out of all his brothers, and is most likely the strongest. He's also incredibly swift and agile.

In terms of weapons, Raphael is known for wielding a pair of sais, though if he's without them he's capable of making do with whatever the surrounding environment offers him.

Emotionally, Raph is all over the place in terms of strengths and weaknesses. For the most part, his angry nature is a huge setback. He has a bad habit of letting it get the best of him which often means he lashes out without thinking, and many times this actually ends up being dangerous to either himself or those around him. If utilized correctly, his anger can also provide a boost of strength against stronger enemies, but more often than not it's his brothers who end up on the receiving end of his snapped temper and rage. Luckily, this is something he is aware of, especially in recent episodes, and he admits to thinking he had it under control only to realize that he really didn't.

Along the same lines as having a short temper, Raph doesn't handle things like teasing well. He can dish it out easily enough, but he's quick to yell and smack someone if he's the butt of a joke. It's also been revealed that Raphael is terrified of cockroaches, to the point that being startled by one can actually result in him disappearing into his shell.

On the positive side, he's certainly not lacking in confidence. Raph is very sure of himself, and just as importantly, he has an equal amount of faith in his brothers and their various abilities.

Oh, and he's a turtle! So. Turtle-y things. He can swim for long distances and hold his breath for a really long period of time.

[Limited Powers]:
Noooothing. As stated before, he's basically just an extremely well-trained martial artist, so there's nothing that really needs to be dialed back. He's been taught Ninjutsu from a young age so he's incredibly capable of handling himself, but there aren't any super powers going on here.

[Other Important Facts]:
He'll have his sais with him when he arrives, as well as some shuriken and maybe a couple smoke bombs for funsies.

Hey, since it seems like there's kind of a lot weirdos around here I guess it's okay to ask -- has anyone seen any, uh...big turtles walking around looking clueless and lost? Or maybe a giant rat wearing a robe? Just wondering. Point me in the direction of the nearest pizza joint, I bet I'd find at least one guy there.

Anyway, what the heck is this place? Besides not New York City. The total lack of skyscrapers gave that one away...
